The numbers are based on our year long study. Daily average energy production in southern California for one regular sized (63” x 79”) solar panel:
1.44m2 (panel surface)
x 6kWh/m2 (average solar radiation in LA per day)
x 0.17 (panel efficiency)
x 0.75 (overall system efficiency)
= 1.1kWh per day (equivalent of 0.577 pounds of CO2 per day or 210 pounds per year)
The cost factor for a resident in Los Angeles on a Time-Of-Use (TOU) meter are:
$0.26/kWh (average rate on tier 2 with SCE)
x 1.1kWh savings per day
x 356 days
= $104 savings per year
The proposed concept will not need any permits from local utility providers because it is a hybrid off-grid system that you can assemble yourself. You can gain independence form the grid and prevent blackouts for your most important household items.
